Lifts

At the hospital where my daughter was there were several lifts on the ground floor, but you couldn’t use any lift. You had to press the number of the floor which the patient was on and wait to be told which lift to use. It was no use getting in another one because you landed at the wrong floor and there seemed to be no access from one floor to another. I presume there must be stairs somewhere. I have not come across this arrangement anywhere else

They were also very strict about the time they let you in – not a minute before visiting hour started and you were practically thrown out at the end of the hour. They also tried to insist  (not always successfully) on only two visitors at a time. In this respect it was rather like it used to be here many years ago. Now in hospital here I’ve seen as many as twenty round a bed.
